The 5 star Kwandwe Private Game Reserve is found in the picturesque Eastern Cape, near the city of Port Elizabeth. Nestled in the Great Fish River region, the reserve includes the Big Five, cheetah, and lions; and is home to South Africa’s highly endangered national bird the Blue Crane. This malaria free reserve consists of 22 000 hectares of thick savannah terrain and gentle slopes painted with flowers - perfect for a wild African wedding.
The untamed beauty of Kwandwe creates the perfect ambiance for an idyllic and unique wedding. The reserve has its own intimate chapel, or the couple can choose to get married on the viewing deck at Ecca Lodge, which overlooks the magnificent scenery.
For the adventurous, couples can choose to get married in the open space of the African bush. The ceremony takes places just before sunset, and afterwards guests celebrate with champagne cocktail sundowners, before heading to one of the stylish venues for the banquet. Alternatively an elegant feast can be arranged in the middle of the African Bush.
Kwandwe Game Reserve offers a selection of luxurious 5 star lodges to accommodate guests and the honeymoon couple.
Set along the banks of river, the Great Fish River Lodge offers 9 stylish suites with private plunge pools, spacious thatched decks, in-and outdoor showers and river deck terraces.
The stylish Ecca Lodge overlooks the picturesque valley and distant cliffs, and features six suites with en suite bathrooms with in- and outdoor showers, a private plunge pool and wraparound wooden deck.
The exclusive Uplands Homestead is available for sole use to a small group or family. This restored farmhouse, which dates back to 1905, features three spacious en suite bedrooms with private balconies.
While the sophisticated and exclusive-use Melton Manor, comprises of four en suite bedrooms, which overlooks the river and forest.
Kwandwe Game Reserve and the Eastern Cape area boast a romantic and historical heritage. The Great Fish River was the border during the Frontier Wars of 1779 to 1878 between the Xhosa, Dutch farmers and the 1820 Settlers from England. The reception area at Kwandwe is a Frontier War-era fortified homestead, complete with gun turrets, old photographs and a Safari Shop.
