- Elegant picnic in the picturesque Cape winelands
An International component manufacturer, recently hosted their global conference in the beautiful city of Cape Town. Over 1500 delegates traveled to South Africa for an incentive trip of a lifetime that included a trip up Table Mountain, breakfast on Signal Hill, and an African gala dinner overlooking the wild Atlantic Ocean.
One of the highlights of this spectacular trip was the group picnic on the elegant and historic Vergelegen Wine Farm in the charming town of Somerset West, a mere 30 minutes outside Cape Town.
The farm’s lush rolling lawns lined by ancient Camphor trees and decorated with blossoming flowers, set the scene for a memorable picnic under the stars. Mother Nature played her role by providing warm autumn weather and clear skies.
In total 1500 delegates were transported to the venue in 42 coaches. On arrival they walked through the estate’s original manor house and fragrant gardens to an open area surrounded by towering trees. There they were seated on scattered colourful carpets, which were layered with bright cushions, blankets and lanterns.
A wicker basket filled with delicious treats was placed on each setting. Guests indulged in fruit, nuts, olives, farm cheeses, freshly baked baguettes, vegetable and pasta salads, and delicious desserts. Waiters served hot snack platters brimming with South African delicacies such as Biltong Spiced Beef Skewers, Traditional Bobootie Samoosas, and Tandoori Spiced Chicken kebabs.
A winelands picnic would not be complete without enjoying the Cape’s finest wines. Giant silver champagne bowls were filled with local sparkling wines, chilled bottles of the estate’s Chardonnay and bottles of the sumptuous Vergelegen 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon.
After sunset the large stage lit up and Cape Town’s brilliant Philharmonic Youth Orchestra and the prestigious Philharmonic Orchestra entertained the group. This esteemed performance was led by highly acclaimed conductor Richard Cook.
