– Green Route gets Greener |

|
Green Tribe is Green Route’s newly launched social responsibility and community development initiative. The rollout of this division within Green Route will pick up steam in the coming months and will soon start to reflect in all facets of our operations. To kick start the initiative, Green Route has recently undertaken an environmental audit of their head office in Cape Town.
The purpose of the audit was three-fold: to ensure that the Green Route offices are run in a more sustainable manner, to focus on ways to reduce our carbon footprint and to take our concern for the environment one step further
Here are some of the things we are doing to make ourselves greener:
- We have developed our basic office recycling system (paper and printer cartridges) into a more integrated waste recycling programme, encouraging all of our staff to get involved. Now our plastic, paper, glass, tin and aluminium are collected by Oasis (a local social organization which creates employment for disabled persons through recycling).
- We have upgraded our copier to one that is more energy efficient, with printing options that allow us to save paper (and therefore trees) in a number of ways.
- We have converted the bulk of our printer paper usage from “mixed sources” paper to a paper type which is 50% recycled.
- We have switched the majority of our cleaning and other “household” products to ones which are biodegrable and/or made from recycled materials making them more environmentally friendly!
- We have started a regular “Green Tips” forum with our staff, to keep us all up-to-date on ways in which to save energy and live greener lives – at work, at home and on the road in between.
Keep an eye on our new website for future developments, both on the green front and in terms of our community development projects.
