– Gondwana Game Reserve Opening Soon in the Western Cape
Opening soon, Gondwana Game Reserve in the lush Western Cape, is sure to thrill guests with its Big Five game viewing and luxurious accommodation. One of the only Big Five private game reserves in the Western Cape, Gondwana is situated on 7 200 hectares of dramatic open grass plains, indigenous Fynbos and rolling valleys, surrounded by the Outeniqua Mountain Range.
The Reserve features Fynbos Camp, which includes 25 superior rooms and 10 luxury suites, overlooking two waterholes and the distant mountains. The African-styled suites have been decorated using natural, earth tones; and include fireplaces and open-plan bathrooms. In addition the camp features rock pools, a cozy boma area, relaxed lounge and bar, elegant restaurant and reference library.
In April 2009, Gondwana will launch Lehele Lodge, a conference venue with a reception area, lounge and bar, a library with interactive multimedia, a restaurant with indoor and outdoor dining areas, a rock pool and an outdoor lounge.
Gondwana has initiated an extensive rehabilitation programme, which will include the introduction of the Big Five (lion, leopard, rhino, elephant and buffalo) onto the reserve. Endangered Cape mountain zebra, grey rhebok, kudu, red hartebeest, springbok and eland have already been introduced.
Guests can take part in game drives, horse-back safaris in a fenced off area of the reserve, bird-watching, and guided nature trails. Trips to the nearby world-class golf estates and pristine beaches can be arranged.
Gondwana is located on South Africa’s famously beautiful Garden Route, a 3.5 hours drive from Cape Town. Alternatively guests can fly into the airport at the small town of George, just under an hours drive from the reserve.
