spacer Destination Innovation The Vineyard Hotel celebrates 115 years!

  - Individual Travel

With historical origins as the single storied home of Lady Anne Barnard over 200 years ago, the Vineyard Hotel is celebrating its 115th year of being a hotel. With so much to offer, it is no surprise that this Grande Dame is such a popular accommodation choice for visitors to Cape Town, whether for business or leisure. It is also the perfect venue for a post group extension stay due to its locality – close to shopping, restaurants, tourist attractions and the airport, but just far enough away from the bustling city, if rest and relaxation are your main goals.

The 175 well-appointed rooms have access to sweeping mountain views, a tranquil Japanese garden or overlook the magnificent lawns beside the Liesbeek River. All rooms are equipped with modern amenities, whether you are staying in a suite, a garden cottage or a deluxe room.

The Vineyard’s facilities are plentiful, with much to keep you occupied. Two acclaimed restaurants, The Square and Myoga, are popular venues with residents and visitors alike. The Garden Lounge & Patio serves a wonderful breakfast as well as delectable high tea. The Splash Cafe, serving contemporary health food, is located near to the two heated swimming pools, Health & Fitness Centre and the world-acclaimed Angsana Spa.

The indigenous six acre gardens are home to two charismatic tortoises and the bird life is prolific, making it an idyllic place for a stroll before lunch or some quiet reflection before dinner. The gardens also play host to daily yoga sessions and boast a variety of walking paths and jogging routes. Apart from the variety of sports activities available on site, the Vineyard also aspires to be the most golf friendly hotel in the Western Cape, offering special guest rates at several of the international class golf courses on the Cape Peninsula.

The award winning two storied Vineyard Conference Centre is an ideal venue for any type of special function, meeting or event as it can accommodate 150 seated or up to 280 for cocktails. Under their “Living Green” label, the Vineyard offers a special event greening package which ensures a more sustainable approach to business. The hotel staff are also committed to being socially responsible and reducing the hotel’s footprint on the planet in many different ways.

The Vineyard takes its name from the 22,000 vines that used to surround the original house in 1800. As South Africa celebrates its 350th anniversary of winemaking this year, the decision was taken to replant a small vineyard on the property to commemorate this special occasion. The hotel has partnered with five wineries - Meerlust, Warwick, Simonsig, Waterford and Klein Constantia - with the idea of bringing history alive for the hotel’s guests.

A stay at the Vineyard Hotel will highlight the warm, friendly and efficient service that the hotel prides its self on as well as confirming the pride it takes in its long and illustrious heritage. The Vineyard Hotel has sister hotels in Stellenbosch and the Cape Town city centre which aspire to similar values and goals.
