Walk with the lions in the raw African bush alongside the Zambezi River; go on elephant back safari and stay on the estate near the animals at Thorntree River Lodge (9 chalets). Now THAT’S unique!

For a unique adrenalin incentive experience!

Victoria Falls is unchallenged as the adventure capital of Africa and it has a justifiable reputation as one of the most powerful incentive and conference destinations on earth. Now Green Route can ALERT you to yet another amazing experience on the Zambian side of Livingstone – a walk in the wilds with lions!

No leashes, no collars, just a natural African wildlife adventure where you walk alongside and interact with the lions for more than an hour. On the banks of the Zambezi River and adjacent to the elephant back safari location at Thorntree Park (10min from the Falls) 10 lion cubs have now made their home. Their ages currently range from 2-8 months.

ALERT (African Lion & Environmental Research Trust) is Africa’s first genuine programme to ethically re-introduce the offspring of rehabilitated captive-bred African lion back into the wild, thus safeguarding the future of the king of the beasts.

You may choose from an early morning sunrise walk, followed by a full English breakfast, or an afternoon walk concluding with sunset cocktails. Trips are for a maximum of 10 people per walk. Since this activity started in Zambia in mid December 2008 the plaudits have been flowing in. Said Susan of the USA: “What an amazing experience to walk in the wilds and watch close-up these beautiful beasts explore, it is as if we are part of their pride.”

Take a look at www.lionalert.org for details of this worthy environmental programme or email us for more information.

The domesticated elephants are also located at Thorntree estate about 15km upstream from the Falls and within the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park. Thus small incentive groups may select to stay at Thorntree River Lodge (9 stand alone chalets on the banks s of the river) and be on-property to interact with the elephants or ride them on safari; and also walk with the lions in the raw bush. A Pride Encounter is also offered where groups may meet the pride and interact with them for great photo opportunities.
