| Introduction to Botswana
When it comes to astonishing and authentic wilderness then BOTSWANA is one of the last unspoiled corners of Africa. A visitor here feels humbled and privileged by the forces of nature that combine into endless vistas, superb tropical climate, amazing wildlife, exotic birds and flowers.
Botswana is bigger than France and yet its population is a mere 1.7 million. The Chobe National Park, at 12,000 sq km, is host to more than 50,000 elephants (the largest herds on earth) plus more than 112 other species, making it unquestionably one of the world’s greatest game reserves. Then there are the incredible wild waterlands of the Okavango Delta with many of the world’s finest luxury safari camps and lodges with awesome locations. These exclusive places are definitely for the higher end “rich and famous” as they are in private concession areas.
It is safe to say that the Okavango is one of the planet’s greatest, natural unspoiled wilderness areas. A visit her will astonish and delight and ensure close encounters with nature you never dreamt possible.
But in the Chobe Park area, just 80km by road from Victoria Falls, you may choose to live in luxury of top-class lodges and hotels or in comfortable but more cost-effective lodges. For the adventurers there is also the opportunity to experience overland safari expeditions with professional guides.
An important factor for tourists is that Botswana is a shining light in Africa as a working democracy and as a peaceful and welcoming land. The Government is dedicated to preserving this wonderful heritage and national parks and wildlife reserves comprise 17% of the land.
Access is by air into Victoria Falls and then by road to Chobe; by air into Kasane International Airport (Chobe) or by air to Maun, the international airport gateway to the Okavango Delta.
