Traditional Tourist

Table Mountain
The scenic majesty of Cape Town is best admired from the summit. Ascending by a modern Swiss-designed revolving cable car is a breathtaking experience and should be scheduled as early as possible in an itinerary when the weather is at its sparkling brightest. There are 22 national parks in South Africa and Table Mountain – a World Heritage Site – is the most popular, with 4.2 million visitors annually. A veritable Wonder of the Natural World it is an iconic landmark and backdrop to this fabulous city.

Victoria & Alfred Waterfront
Cape Town is a shopping Mecca and the V & A Waterfront is acclaimed for the successful blend of shops, restaurants, pubs and entertainment areas. Its appeal is magnified because it’s situated in the heart of the Cape Town harbor and has some of the best shops, flea markets and restaurants in the country.

Canal Walk Shopping Experience
Canal Walk is about a 15-minute drive from Cape Town and is one of the newest shopping centres in the country and the biggest in the southern hemisphere! Truly a paradise for shoppers. The shops range from designer stores, to supermarkets, to arts and crafts. The food court is especially impressive with a huge large screen TV. You can spend the whole day there, as there is an exciting amusement park, Ratanga Junction, right next door for the kids.

Robben Island
Robben Island, just off the coast of Cape Town, is famous for the imprisonment of South Africa’s first democratic President, Nelson Mandela in its maximum-security prison and its association with apartheid.

However, today the island is a World Heritage Site and home to a museum that reflects the triumph of the human spirit over adversity. Robben Island lies just 12 km offshore and is one of the highlights of any trip to Cape Town.

It was not always a prison. People originally lived here, before the sea cut off the spit of land that connected it to the Cape mainland. It was only after the Dutch arrived in the Cape in the mid-1600s that its use as a place of incarceration began. Because of its remoteness its advantage as a place of isolation for leprosy patients and the mentally ill meant that it was used for this purpose between 1846 and 1931.

Robben Island was a prison for indigenous African leaders, Muslim leaders from the East Indies, Dutch and British settler soldiers and civilians, women and anti-apartheid activists.

It was after the unbanning of the ANC and the beginning of the end of apartheid, in 1990, that political prisoners began to be released from the island. The island only ceased being a jail in 1996 with the departure of the last common-law prisoners and it was in 1999 that Robben Island was finally declared a World Heritage site of cultural significance.

Township Tours
Discover how the squalor and the deprivation of the townships of a previously disadvantaged community is being transformed and provided with modern schools, clinics, electricity, clean water, livable homes and sport facilities. Their struggle against apartheid and their endeavours during these difficult years to uplift themselves through the establishment of community centres and informal trading initiatives like “spaza” shops and “Shebeens”. Humbling and entrancing at the same time!
